Let's do This, London Life

Bucket List for the Summer

I recently started bullet journaling back in June, and as part of this I made a range of lists of things I wanted to do, places I wanted to go, things I wanted to experience and even restaurants and bars I wanted to try – all of which had no particular time limit, it was just nice to see things written down.

One of the only lists that did have a time limit was what I wanted to do over summer – sort of a bucket list for summer 2018*. Some seem more achievable than others, especially considering merely a week after buying my bullet journal I lost my job! Anyway, check out what I would like to do in the next couple of months and what I have already done so far.

*I am taking ‘summer’ as from the start of May until the end of September.

  1. Watch the sunrise –  I feel summer can’t be summer until you have seen that sun come up, somewhere!
  2. Sky Garden in London ✔️ – I was a little disappointed with this place. Has anyone else been here and found it pretty underwhelming compared to other ‘high rise’ venues like the Shard?
  3. Eat a ‘99’ ice cream in the park like I was a little girl ✔️ –This is as yummy as it used to be but now they cost £3! What is THAT about?

A little gutted they didn’t have “Monkey’s Blood” but oh well…
  4. Burger at Beef and Birds on Brick Lane ✔️ – I saw this place on Instagram and really wanted to try it for their World Cup specials; it exceeded every expectation and I will be going back.
  5. Freejumping at Oxygen or Flip Out – …because jumping…
  6. Go to the beach in the UK ✔️ – I think it must have been at least 12 years since I was at the beach in the UK which is ridiculous! I went to Bournemouth in June which I loved so much – helped by this glorious weather we have been having.

The water of course, was still freezing!
  7. Tour London by night on a bus tour – touristy but I love my city after dark.
  8. Tickets to see Chicago on the West End – really hope to arrange soon
  9. Zip wire over London – …because weeeeeeeeeeeeee…
  10. Go to London Zoo’s Night Zoo ✔️- This was one of the first things I wanted to do this summer and I would highly recommend it. You can read more about it in my Night Zoo blog post here.

    Who doesn’t love giraffes?
  11. Climb over the o2 – The bear went over the mountain, Ellie will go over the o2.
  12. Source clients as a freelancer ✔️ – I gotta start somewhere…
  13. Watch Ocean’s 8 ✔️ – I eagerly await any Sandra Bullock film with childlike anticipation and this one didn’t disappoint.
  14. Get my blog up and running ✔️ – Maybe the scariest on this list
  15. Plan a trip in August, at the very least in September – I wanted to go somewhere with my friends in May/June but couldn’t arrange anything due to my circumstances changing, but this will be the first thing I plan once I’m back in a job!
  16. Go for a picnic in the park ✔️ – So far, I have been on one ‘proper’ picnic, but I’ve managed to relax in the park on many more occasions.

    Bushy Park in Richmond
  17. Take a boat on the lake at Alexandra Palace – I took a swan pedalo out on the water in Italy when I was about 5 and ended up quite stuck. I’d like to see if this is still fun as a grownup!
  18. Visit ‘Tearing it Up’ exhibit before 22nd August – Must.visit.more.exhibits. Must.be.more.cultured. Must.go.to.more.museums.
  19. Watch the sunset – I’ve seen the sun go down many time this summer so far, but it isn’t the same as watching it SET.
  20. Tickets to Shakira ✔️ – Purchased and attended. She is unbelievable live. I hadn’t seen her before but was super impressed at how ‘real’ she sounded < if you get what I mean.

  21. Explore some towns and cities in the UK – So far I have been to Newcastle, Durham (where I’m from), Oxford and Bournemouth. I’d like to visit Bath and Cambridge before summer is out, and potentially return to Edinburgh because I love it there.
  22. Go to a theme park in the UK – I haven’t been to a theme park in the UK since I was 14! TEN years!
  23. Go to a food festival – I have already been to a beer festival which was super cool, but I pick food over beer, anyday!
  24. Try some new recipes ✔️- Probably the easiest on the list for me – I’ve already experimented with some cakes, buns and cooking ‘Basa’ which I’d not even heard of until recently!
  25. FIND A NEW JOB! – Obvs…

Let me know in the comments below what you would like to do this summer and anything interesting you have already done! Also, do tell me if you would like to hear more on any of the above – the concert experience, cooking, the beach day, anything!

  1. Omg you have so many on the list that makes me excited! You saw Shakira!!!

Haha and the one about the blog launch. I was so nervous when I published my first post! 🙈 haha I never made a bucket list in my life for some reason, and you made me want to write it down somewhere.

    1. Haha you and me both! Shakira was amazing – she was on in london and we left it like a week before the concert to buy tickets! That’s so good gal, you should get writing! Making lists gives you such a sense of achievement when you tick them off although it is frustrating when you haven’t ticked anything for ages! I made a places bucket list too but don’t know if I should blog it!! x

    1. Thank you ♥ The night zoo should be on everyone’s summer lists! I know right, £3 and not even any strawberry sauce – but it was from a very old, traditional little ice cream cart thing in the park which was really charming (but still, 3 pounds!!!) x

  2. Summer bucket lists are superb! I feel summer always goes by so quickly, that if you don’t make plans, you’ll barely do anything. And then end up bummed come along fall – because there was so much you were still supposed to do! Fingers crossed you finish off your list (or at least your favorites) 😊

    1. Exactly how I was feeling too! Winter seemed to go on for about 6 months (but luckily summer is doing the same) so I wanted to enjoy every day as much as possible. I think I will do another list for September – what I did and didn’t get to do! x

    1. That ice cream was so delish! I would recommend going to Sky Garden at least once because entry is free, I just thought it was a bit overhyped – no guarantee of anywhere to sit/very crowded and £15 cocktails! (a lot even for london!)

  3. You have accomplished so much of your list already! I am super jealous about the Shakira one. I love her.

I created a bucket list of my own but nothing too exciting, mostly stuff to do with my kids. My husband and I did take our yearly trip to South Haven, MI and that was definitely the highlight of my summer so far.

Have fun completing the rest of your list!

    1. Thank you 🙂 I do love making lists so I can tick things off as I go! I don’t know how much more of it I’ll get to do because of my job situation but fingers crossed! I can’t wait for my next trip somewhere – it’s been a long summer with no holidays! x

  4. I want to do all of those things too….after I’ve lost the weight….news update I’ve lost almost 5 kilos. Feel better and probably look better for it…mind you I could murder some pancakes from Richmond
    Love you

    1. hahaha I love this! I posted some pancakes from Richmond this morning on my Instagram. Well done with the weight Moose, keep going for sure and you will be at your goal before you know it! x

  5. Good luck on the job hunt! You have some great things on your list, I’ve been saying I want to go to the zoo for months but going at night time sounds even more magical! I was tempted to try and get tickets for the Sky Garden but don’t think my Fiancé would appreciate it much and if you found it underwhelming I’m not sure I should now! I’ve always wanted to visit Bournemouth too it looks so gorgeous in pictures! On my bucket list for the rest of summer is to enjoy my birthday, go to the zoo and go on a road trip for bank holiday!

    1. Thank you so much – hopefully something will turn up soon! I’d recommend still going to the Sky Garden – it is a nice view (and free to go) but the drinks and food sure so make up for it – which is what I found really disappointing for the food/drinks you get. I hadn’t been to Bournemouth since I will little so it was nice to go with my man ♥ I hope you enjoy the zoo – the road trip sounds so cool, I’d like to do something similar then too! Happy Birthday in advance x

      1. I think (not 100% sure) that they release tickets every week or two weeks for just one or two weeks in advance (for the free entry). They are always released on Mondays too and can be booked on their website. Hope this helps 🙂 x

  6. Oh what a lovely list, wishing I made one this summer now too since the weather has been so nice lately! Ok, a ’99’ is £3 now?? Why are they trying to rob us? Haha, I need to watch the sunset at some point too, it’s always so beautiful! Love this list!

    1. Thank you for reading my summer list ♥ It isn’t too late to make one! The best part is now you can include things you have already done and tick them off! I knew I wouldn’t be the only one to find the 99 thing ridiculous but it was still so yummy!

      1. Oh that’s true! There are so many cities I’d like to visit, York and Edinburgh being a couple of them! Haha it is some delicious ice cream tbf! x

  7. I love reading people’s lists and goals! Looks like you’ve done some fun stuff so far! I definitely need to get off my butt and do more things before I have school and work next month 😖

    1. Thank you so much ♥ It’s important to have a balance of relaxing and enjoying your time off and getting some things done that you would like to do 🙂 make yourself too busy and it feels like you have never had a break! x

  8. Thank you Ellie, you gave me a lot of ideas! I have as well a list of things I’d like to do this summer. First of all I have to decide where to go after London. There so many places I want to visit, but I think I’ll choose another European capital!

  9. I love your list Ellie! Cambridge is so nice in summer, I went there just two weekends ago and it was stunning. I would recommend renting a punt if you’re going with friends, it’s such a nice way to see the city and enjoy the river. I would also love to climb over the O2, it’s one of the things to do on my Ultimate London Bucket List! Let me know if you do it first, I would love to hear your thoughts 🙂

    1. Oooh that sounds like so much fun! 🚣‍♀️ I hope I get to go there before the end of the summer. Every time I’m at the O2 I get super motivated to do it but never get around to booking it! It’s on my London Bucket list too which I think I’ll share soon 😂😃 apparently it’s meant to be so much fun!
