Travel Goals for 2019

I kicked off my 2018 travels with a trip to Abu Dhabi in March and after that, with a fluctuating income, no job over summer and moving house, seeing the world sort of fell by the wayside. Back on track since September however, I ventured to Prague in Czech Republic for an amazing five days, followed by a whistle stop, weekend tour of Warsaw in December. Whilst I am endlessly grateful for the chance to visit these places, I have made it a personal goal to up the travel ante in 2019.

So far for 2019 I’m not hanging around, returning from a girly trip to Amsterdam just six days into the new year.

Then in February for my birthday there is already a flight booked for four nights in Istanbul with my Mr.

With my man’s birthday following mine, early March will no doubt take us somewhere too. At the moment we have been looking at Berlin or Venice.

As for the rest of the year I haven’t planned that far ahead yet, but I would love to get to see Barcelona with my man as it is a city we both love, and have been toying with the idea of visiting for the Grand Prix in May.

Edinburgh is one of my favourite cities in the UK, after London of course

I tend to avoid travelling much in June, July and August as this is when most people do it, plus with school holidays children/families litter streets like cockroaches so I think I will focus on exploring some cities in the UK in summer 2019. I would like to get to get back to Edinburgh, see Bath, Cambridge and possibly even northern Scotland or Wales in the summer months whilst the snow is not on the ground.

As the year starts to cool down, I am keen to visit Budapest and Vienna in September. After needing to cancel a trip here in 2018, I really want to see these beautiful cities as soon as I can.

Christmas market trips are a must for me too. I would love to visit Cesky Krumlov in Czech Republic, Wroclaw in Poland or Nuremburg, Germany for the festivities in 2019.

Whilst we are busy planning, it’s always good to dream. That being said, I would also love to visit Baku in Azerbaijan, Persepolis in Iran and Rovaniemi in Finland. Let’s see what cards 2019 give me to play. Where would you like to go most of all in 2019? Perhaps you have some trips planned already? Let me know below what you are getting up to.

  1. Lovely post as usual! I have some reccomendations for you- first think first theese pink colors in the begging of the article are not like the best option *sowwy* . Then on the topic I` d definetly reccomend you Venice! I` ve been there back in 2015 & didn`t enjoy it but it was cause I`ve had…expectations that wasn` t exactly….Plus I was in a compicated relationship. This is my faut & I` d give it another shot but only with a mr by my side. This place is litterally so romantic. Personnally I love travel & I have my bucket list but nothing specificly planned for the year yet. Also as you love traveling would you consider visit Bulgaria? You`d have what to visit or maybe to taste…..

    1. Thank you for reading ❤️ I wasn’t too sure on the pale colours either but I wanted to try something different in case the bright colours look too much! I’ve been to Venice before and adored the city. I would like to go back with my man. I’d never thought about Bulgaria before but maybe one day as I hear the capital is beautiful.

  2. Oh, I love this post!!!
Your travel goals for 2019 sound great! In the UK, have you ever been to the Isle of Wight? Or Durdle Door in Dorset? I recommend Glencoe in Scotland as well (actually all Highlands haha) I love those places and might give you ideas for the summer!

    1. Thank you for reading ❤️ I haven’t been to the Isle of Wight but I’ve heard it’s really pretty. My boyfriend dud suggest we should go last summer but we visited Bournemouth instead (also great!) But we didn’t get all the way down to Durdle Door so that is still to do. I love parts of Scotland too, I went there a lot as a child living so close to the borders! The highlands is definitely on my list, the views there seem spectacular! X

  3. All the best with all your travel goals Ellie xD I really hope you do get round to going Barcelona for the Spanish GP (though it doesn’t often offer a great race). Huge F1 fan myself so would love to see a post dedicated towards your experience at a race weekend or race day at least. I’m going Edinburgh next month and Budapest later in the year so I hope to give you a few pointers on those places

    1. Baku is where I’d love to go for a race and Abu Dhabi since I’ve already been to the track! I’d live to add it to my blog as well …I adore Edinburgh so much but I’ve never visited Budapest, it’s always been cancelled if I’ve ever booked it! Fingers crossed I’ll get there in 2019.

  5. This post is enabling my travel goals far too much lol. Istanbul will be so good!! I visited Turkey once a couple years back but it was just one of those package holidays with family, so I really need to return in a more “me” setting. I’ve got so much stuff planned already this year though so it may have to be one for 2020. Good luck!

    1. Oh definitely! You will see a completely different side to the city. It is one of those places I just never tire of – I am so excited to go back and show my man around the city as he has never been before. Thank you for reading.

  6. Budapest and Vienna are beautiful ❤️ I hope you get to them! It would be great to go to a Christmas market too.. I had that on my list last year, didn’t make it, and then forgot to put it on my list this year, haha. Have you been to any before?

    1. Thank you for reading. Those cities look so lovely – I was so disappointed when I had to cancel my trip there last year. I went to Warsaw for the Christmas Market there in December 18 and to a couple in places in and around London. Warsaw was a bit disappointing (I have a post coming soon) but I still enjoyed it. I would like to go to Czech Christmas markets this year if I can.

      1. I found Warsaw a bit disappointing too, but the old city was beautiful. Have you been to Krakow? It’s gorgeous, and I’ve heard amaze descriptions of Wroclaw, I think. Oh yes, the Czech ones would be unbelievable.

      2. Oh really? That’s a shame, it was pretty underwhelming 😦 I haven’t been to Krakow or Wroclaw but looked at both last year for the markets. I have heard great things about both and how they’re apparently better to visit than Warsaw 🙄 I’d definitely go back to Poland though ♥️

  7. Wow! Your travel plans are really amazing. Česky Krumlov is stunning and I can’t recommend this place enough. Istanbul is magical and I am sure you will love it. I was there in November and wrote some posts about it, if you still need some tips on where to go and what to do. Eat breakfast outside there, not in a hotel. Breakfast is the king of meals there and it is seriously delicous. I don’t have any travel plans confirmed yet, I am currently searching for some cheap flights around May and will see where it will take me. 🙂

    1. I have heard only wonderful things about Cesky Krumlov and I would love to visit soon – it seems even more magical at Christmas time. I love Istanbul and I am so excited to explore the city with my partner ♥ (I have visited before). We are just looking to book a hotel these days actually, and I insisted to a concerned boyfriend, that we did not need breakfast in Turkey as the food in Istanbul was AMAZING, Good luck with your travel plans – I love just booking a flight to wherever is cheapest and seeing what happens.

  8. Oh wow! I am jealous of what you have planned already! So far, I have my main big trip of 2019 booked… I am going to Japan in April. It feels so far away, but hopefully, I’ll get a trip or two in before then. Like you, I really want to go to Budapest and Marrakesh is also high on my list. I hope you get to go to Barcelona, it’s a lovely destination. I went in May of last year and it wasn’t that busy so that would be a good time to go. I do have a travel guide of Barcelona on my blog if you’d like to read it.

    1. I have only heard good things about Budapest – people have either been and loved it or really want to visit so it is super high on my list. Japan will be amazing – once January is out of the way it will be here in no time at all! I love Barcelona when I was growing up but haven’t visited as an adult – similar to Amsterdam. I love going to Camp Nou and Sagrada Familia and Guell Park x

  9. I adore Barcelona and Amsterdam both. And Istanbul is on the top of my to visit list. Edinburgh is probably one of my favourite cities in the UK, though I’d steer clear of it in August when Edinburgh Fringe is on only because they price gauge all the accommodation and it books up so early! x

    1. Thank you for reading ♥ I remember visiting during the Fringe some years ago, but hotels were not an issue as we used to drive there and back in a day when I lived up north. I am so excited for Istanbul – can’t wait to get back there and explore.

  11. St. Petersburg is also on my travel list, it looks so beautiful. I’ve never been to Edinburgh but I’d love to go (especially to see the castle), that picture of the canon overlooking the city is amazing! 🙂 I haven’t travelled much since 2017, but I moved to the UK so 2018 was a ‘settling in’ year for me. This year I’ve got two trips planned to Amsterdam and Cyprus and I couldn’t be more excited!

    1. I haven’t been to Edinburgh Castle since I was a little girl so I would love to get up there again! St Petersburg looks awesome but now we are also looking at Switzerland for our March trip so watch this space! I love Amsterdam so much – I have a few posts on my recent trip there coming soon. Cyprus feels like home for me as I spent a lot of time there when I was growing up ♥ I recently fell in complete love with the Northern part (Turkish side) – I’d definitely recommend a visit!

  13. Wow, I love that you’re planning your 2019 trips already. So far I’m going to Disneyland Paris in May for my sister’s hen weekend but nothing else planned so far. If you do get to Bath I’d highly recommend visting the historic Roman Baths and taking a dip in the roof top pool at Thermae Bath Spa. With a little day trip to The Cotswolds. 🙂
